  • The danger of chemical substances coming into contact with the skin for fleet maintenance personnel: Fleet maintenance personnel are sometimes required to use chemical products to carry out fleet maintenance. These chemicals may contain acids or bases, be dangerous or even corrosive, and cause skin damage. The risk is mainly present during the use of chemical products, but also during their preparation (e.g. spraying) or storage. Possible damage includes allergenic reactions, burns, irritation, attacks on the reproductive system, mutations and even cancer. To reduce the risks associated with skin contact with chemicals, it is possible to replace most industrial cleaners with others that are much less harmful to health: vehicle maintenance can be carried out using two particularly effective products: black soap (for bodywork / fabrics) and vinegar (for window cleaning). Provide personnel with personal protective equipment such as gloves and goggles. Always follow instructions for product use.
     
  • The danger of emotional stress due to customer disputes: In some cases, car rental agents can be subjected to high levels of psychological stress. This is particularly true in the case of disputes with people who have damaged a vehicle and refuse to admit their wrongdoing. This can happen at any time of the year. It is more likely to happen during peak business periods. The possible damage is a deterioration in the working atmosphere, stress, irritability, insomnia, addictive behavior (alcohol, drugs). Frequent repetition can lead to anxiety, depression and even burn-out. Before you rent a car, it's important to draw up a precise inventory of fixtures, including photos. In the event of a conflict with a customer, it's a good idea to call in other people to take the pressure off. It's important to take regular breaks away from the work area to let off steam and stress.
     
  • Noise hazards for fleet maintenance staff: Fleet maintenance staff work in noisy environments, particularly when cleaning the interior (vacuum cleaner) or the bodywork (pressure washer). Risks are mainly present when servicing vehicles using electric and pneumatic tools. The risk depends mainly on two factors: intensity (measured in dB) and exposure time. To reduce these risks, distribute hearing protectors to all employees, enabling them to protect themselves from noise. Posters reminding employees of the risks associated with noise can be put up in the field, or stickers reminding them to use hearing protection can be affixed directly to the machines concerned.
