EXCERPTS FROM OUR HEALTH AND SAFETY RISK ASSESSMENT FOR EVENT AGENCIES
- The danger of working too fast for event management and organization: The work of personnel in charge of event management and organization imposes this postural constraint: the majority of work is done in a seated position for long periods, particularly for computer work. Postural risks are present every day for employees. They are heightened by working in a position that is unsuitable for the individual (e.g. incorrectly adjusted office chair). Musculoskeletal disorders such as neck and back pain can result from prolonged poor posture. Adjust the workstation so as to adopt a comfortable working posture.
- The danger for pickers of storing objects on a high support: Pickers are sometimes required to work at height, and have to carry their tools with them. Tools stored at height represent a major risk for those below them in the event of a fall. Preparers are at risk all year round. The likelihood of this type of accident is higher when it's windy, when the means of working at height isn't perfectly stable, and if there's a lot of foot traffic below the work area. The main risks are wounds, haematomas, fractures, head injuries and crushing of one or more limbs. To reduce these risks, wearing a helmet at all times on construction sites is the most effective way of protecting yourself from this hazard. If wearing a helmet isn't to everyone's taste, you can opt for a hard hat, which will also protect you from the cold in winter and the sun in summer. In addition, don't place objects in a precarious balance, especially high up. Keep only what needs to be kept up high, and avoid passing under or near high work areas.
- The danger of managerial stress for sales consultants/sales reps: Sales consultants/sales reps can come under considerable pressure, because in addition to satisfying their customers, they also have to satisfy their own hierarchy. This can lead to complex situations where expectations are incompatible. The risk arises mainly when customer and hierarchical requirements conflict. In addition, the risk can be heightened if there are high sales targets and/or long working hours, and/or a hierarchy that is very attentive to sales results and/or a demand for constant availability from management. The possible damage is a deterioration in the working atmosphere, irritability, stress, anxiety, problems with food hygiene (nibbling which can lead to obesity), the taking of psychotropic drugs (medication, tobacco, drugs) or even Burn-Out. Good prevention of managerial risks requires measures to ensure sound organization.
- Dangers associated with handling and accumulating loads in site preparation: Event planners are likely to have to handle heavy loads (e.g. sound, lighting, decor) or work machines (power tools, etc.) throughout the year. This depends in particular on the work area and the quantity of raw materials/tools to be taken to the site.
