EXCERPTS FROM THE HEALTH AND SAFETY RISK ASSESSMENT 
 
The prolonged static sitting for developers: Developers use computers almost 100% of their working time, which means they are in a prolonged static seated position the vast majority of the time. Postural risks are present every day for developers. They are exacerbated by working in a position that is unsuitable for the person (e.g. poorly-adjusted office chair), and by the avoidance/absence of walking (e.g. walking as little as possible). Musculoskeletal disorders such as neck and back pain can result from prolonged poor sitting posture. To reduce these risks, adjust the office workstation so as to adopt an ideal working posture: back straight or slightly back supported by the backrest, feet resting flat on the floor, elbow angle straight or slightly obtuse, forearms close to the body, hand in line with the forearm. See to the installation of more comfortable office equipment in the event of problems being reported by staff. Finally, regular physical activity outside work remains the best way to combat these risks and avoid long-term damage.
 
The danger of prolonged computer screen work for developers: Prolonged screen work puts a heavy strain on vision. For people already suffering from eye defects (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, convergence problems, presbyopia), the strain is even greater. The risk is increased by the cumulative time spent working on the computer, and by the work environment (screen brightness, brightness of the workroom, distance from the screen, etc.). The main possible damage is eye fatigue generated by the strain on the eye muscles. This is reflected in increasingly blurred vision, tingling and redness of the eyes, watery eyes, inopportune blinking of the eyelids and headaches. To reduce these risks, INRS recommends taking a break if computer work lasts more than 2 hours in a row. Software such as F.lux can be used to reduce the blue color of screens. If the brightness of the workroom is low, turn on the lights to reduce eye strain and the risk of headaches.
 
The danger of managerial stress for developers: Developers can come under considerable pressure, as they have an obligation to the company to achieve results. The risk is proportional to the number of simultaneous hazards: tight deadlines, long working hours, a hierarchy that is very attentive to work progress, contradictions or misunderstandings between different teams, and so on. The possible damage is a deterioration in the working atmosphere, irritability, stress, anxiety and food hygiene problems.
