EXCERPTS FROM THE HEALTH AND SAFETY RISK ASSESSMENT

  • The danger of manual handling at the checkout: During the checkout process, checkout staff have to scan large quantities of items, which represents a significant weight to handle. The risk is present all year round for staff in charge of collection. The risk is proportional to the quantity of products carried in a day and to the weight they represent. Possible damage is Musculoskeletal Disorders affecting muscles, tendons and nerves in the upper limbs (shoulders, elbows, wrists) and spine.

  • Danger due to awkward postures - crouching or forced extension when stocking shelves: Store shelving staff have to work in awkward postures such as kneeling to fill the lower shelves, or in forced extension to fill the upper shelves. Mainly when stocking shelves, when it comes to feeding the bottom or top shelves of the store. The risk is proportional to the time spent and the weight handled. Possible damage includes joint pain (knees), circulatory problems, back pain and muscle aches.

  • Danger from contact with chemicals in the bike shop: In the bike shop, staff use a number of chemicals on a daily basis, such as solvents (e.g. for degreasing derailleur chains), oils (e.g. for lubricating derailleur chains) and greases (e.g. for greasing cranksets). The risk is mainly present when using these chemicals, but also when cleaning and tidying up the workshop and tools. The damage caused by contact with chemicals is varied and depends on the product. Most cause redness, allergic reactions and peeling. Other products are likely to cause cancer, mutations or even reproductive toxicity (CMR products). To reduce skin exposure to chemicals, it's essential to wear resistant, waterproof mechanical gloves. To do this, look for the EN374 mark on gloves. This guarantees protection against chemical risks. To avoid allergies, nitrile gloves are preferable to latex gloves.

  • The danger of being hit or crushed by a delivery vehicle when unloading goods: Sports stores mainly use trucks to deliver goods. During loading and unloading operations, employees are exposed to the risk of being crushed. The risk is mainly present when maneuvering heavy goods vehicles on the delivery area and the loading/unloading dock.

"The document, of high quality and customizable, is an excellent starting point for a topic that often takes up a lot of time. Thank you also for listening to our needs and the customer follow-up!"

"High-quality service at a very competitive price - the company fully adapted to my business and its multiple risks. This document was also reviewed by the labor inspection, which approved the quality of the work. I recommend."

I recommend the occupational risk assessment documents for their ease of use (Excel workbook) and the relevance of risks listed by profession.
